Why do you volunteer?
My goal in life is to make a contribution to society. I want to create actionable change and help those in need. Volunteering allows me to realize my goal and gives me a sense of purpose. It is also beneficial for my personal growth, as I am exposed to diversity and improve my social skills. Why did you join Youth4Better? I joined Youth4Better because it provided a platform for me to support others and create my own project. I started by joining the Tutoring Service Campaign because I wanted to make education accessible and share my resources. Now, I am starting my own project, Health4Better. Can you tell us about Health4Better? I am very excited to launch a project that focuses on healthcare and medicine. I believe that our youth is oftentimes hesitant or even discouraged from pursuing a career in healthcare. This campaign will encourage students to learn more about healthcare and consider it as a possible career choice. Moreover, it will help people to learn more about how to stay healthy and safe. How will your campaign achieve this? By creating slideshows and posts about different healthcare career tracks and sharing facts about medicine, I believe we can reach our goal. In the future, I would also like to invite guest speakers who would discuss their professions and research and share valuable insights. Why are you passionate about healthcare and medicine? My passion for medicine and healthcare developed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many lives were lost, and I realized the importance of medicine for society. I understood that healthcare workers are fighting right next to their patients, often saving their lives. Through my campaign, I would like to emphasize how crucial healthcare workers are and how critical the world of medicine is.

Youth4Better Volunteers helped raise a total of $1,360 at the Language Link Educational Center in New York for Ukrainian families affected by the war.
The recent Ukrainian conflict has already resulted in 7.1 million displaced peoples within Ukraine and 3.7 million who have been forced to flee. By participating in this fundraiser, Youth4Better volunteers hope to be able to ease the lives of at least some of these families. We continue to accept donations for families and children that we can help directly, so you can be assured that your money will be send directly to people in need! Donations can be made using the "Donate" page. Youth4Better's Washington Chapter, directed by Joshua Jaiyeola, recently created handmade cards to send out to veteran homes during the holidays.
The effort was part of the Holiday Cards for Veterans Campaign, which has produced a total of 941 handwritten cards in 2021. The campaign aims to support veterans during the holidays, who are often living alone during these times of celebration. The Washington Chapter has been a part of Youth4Better since June of 2021 and has sense led and participated in several nationwide campaigns. We are thankful and proud of the work they have accomplished. We hope that these cards found their way to the meal trays of veterans on holidays, and hopefully, they will put smiles on the faces of these retirees. But most of all, we believe that this small act of kindness will make our volunteers better members of society who, by spending hours on creating these cards, recognize the sacrifice of these individuals. Youth4Better's California Chapter recently started a new campaign called Recycling4Better. The campaign aims to help our planet by reducing the amount of plastic going to waste by taking bottles to recycling centers and donating the profits to help with cancer research.
The campaign has donated its first 500 bottles within a month of its inception through the help of members and chapters nationwide. We hope that by encouraging recycling, we are able to save our planet, and that the profits raised will help save lives. We encourage our volunteers to participate in this incredible campaign in order to expand its impact. Ridge Hill Mall partnered with Feeding Westchester to raise money through "Branches of Joy", a Christmas tree competition amongst local businesses and nonprofits!
Voting was conducted online and the mall planned to donate $5,000 if the goal of 5,000 votes was met. Many of the participants also donated, in food items and money. In total, the votes highly surpassed that number, as the winner garnered 7,535 votes! The donations of Ridge Hill Mall, and other businesses and nonprofits that participated in the event, greatly impacted the abilities of Feeding Westchester. With several thousand dollars and several hundred food items, they are sure to feed dozens of families and help support our wonderful community through a difficult and unprecedented time. Thank you to all New York volunteers who participated in this event! |
