Problem:
Many places often do not recycle as well as they should. Janitors have often been seen dumping the contents of blue recycling containers into the same bag as the unrecyclable materials. Residents in Houston, Texas have noticed garbage trucks pick up their recyclables along with their trash and dump them together. And even those programs that are successful, the recyclables are hard to convert to reusable material because China, the biggest importer of recyclables in the world, has established a tight ban on recyclable imports, known as National Sword. This rendered recycling programs all around the world to become nearly completely ineffective.
Solution:
Instead of recycling or throwing away items you no longer need, you can re-purpose them and give them a second life. Items previously seen as trash, can be used to create useful, practical tools or maybe some beautiful décor. Try your hand at making beautiful arts and crafts items, collages, and sculptures using materials that you no longer need or that would otherwise wind up in the trash.
Impact:
Each submission is immediately benefiting the Earth. Each piece of material used in this project is one piece of material that will not wind up in a landfill. Currently, our members have created 6 different projects which, in total, removed about 8 32-page magazines, or a small novel, from the landfills.
